After recently being nominated for the Instrumentation Excellence Awards, ION Science is excited to share that they have advanced towards winning the ‘Sensor Product of the Year’ award, with their ground-breaking MiniPID 2 PID sensor.

ION Science offers a range of Photoionisation Detector (PID) sensors, designed to be seamlessly integrated into systems or products for measuring Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) exposure levels. This ensures that they remain within the safe limits established by regulatory bodies, protecting both workers and the environment.

VOCs need to be monitored to ensure compliance with Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs), driven by legislation. Exposure to VOCs can cause acute health effects such as eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, and nausea, as well as long-term health effects such as damage to the liver, kidneys, central nervous system (CNS), and even cancers such as leukaemia.

Organisations also need to ensure that the amount of VOCs they are emitting into the atmosphere is controlled and regulated. VOCs contribute towards the formation of ozone and fine particulates in the atmosphere, and some act as greenhouse gases which causes global warming. Other environmental effects of VOC overexposure include pollution, which can result in entire ecosystems failing to thrive.
