ION SENSE® Presents Sensor Portfolio at National Air Quality Conference
ION SENSE®, a brand of ION Science Limited and a recognised leader in advanced gas detection technology, will take part in the National Air Quality Conference at Prospero House, London, on 4 November 2025. Visitors can find the team at Stand 11, where ION SENSE® will present its range of advanced gas sensing products, integration solutions, and technologies designed to support indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring.
Performance and Stability Across Air Quality Applications
Among the key innovations on display at the National Air Quality Conference is the trusted MiniPID 2 range, ION SENSE®’s most established and versatile line of PID sensors for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection. Known for their humidity resistance, reliability, high sensitivity, and superior stability, the sensors deliver rapid response and clear down times, enabling real-time monitoring of VOC levels even in dynamic conditions. MiniPID 2 sensors are widely used across industries including indoor air quality, environmental monitoring, industrial health and safety and personal exposure assessment.

MiniPID 2 sensors are available in various ranges, sensitivities and energies tailored to specific application needs – including MiniPID 2, MiniPID 2 HS (high sensitivity, sub PPB), MiniPID 2 PPB (parts per billion detection), and MiniPID 2 WR (wide range). Each model integrates ultra-stable, high-intensity UV lamps designed to ensure long operational life and optimal sensitivity, even to less volatile organic compounds that are typically more difficult to detect. The sensors are designed for both diffusive and pumped sampling methods, ensuring flexible deployment in portable, wearable, or fixed monitoring systems.
Their compact form factor, long-term stability, and low maintenance requirements make the MiniPID 2 range an ideal choice for OEMs and integrators seeking reliable performance with minimal overhead. In addition, low power consumption makes these sensors particularly well-suited for battery-powered applications, enabling continuous operation in remote or mobile use cases.
Also being showcased at the National Air Quality Conference is the recently launched ION SENSE® PID, a next generation photoionisation detector (PID) designed for VOC detection. Unveiled earlier this year at Sensor + Test 2025 in Nuremberg, this new generation PID delivers exceptional performance with a 50% faster response time, robust EMI protection, intelligent diagnostics (patent pending), and a greater than 15,000-hour lamp and filter life. The sensor is engineered to perform reliably even in high-humidity and demanding environments – offering users confidence, accuracy, and low cost of ownership.

The company will also feature NextPM, one of the most advanced particulate matter (PM) sensors available today. NextPM delivers real-time direct measurement of PM₁, PM₂.₅, and PM₁₀ in both µg/m³ and particles per litre. Its patented technologies – precision airflow control, integrated humidity regulation, anti-contamination design and dual-angle optical detection – enable highly accurate data collection, even in harsh or variable environmental conditions. It is ideally suited to applications in indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, environmental research, and smart city integration.

Rapid Evaluation and Industrial Grade Reliability
Supporting system integration, ION SENSE® will showcase its new ION CONNECT and ION TRANSMIT boards – developed in direct response to customer feedback for cost effective integration options. These boards simplify sensor deployment by providing rapid evaluation and “live PID data straight out of the box,” removing the need for custom circuitry.
The ION CONNECT board facilitates straightforward data interpretation by converting analogue signals into digital outputs, while the ION TRANSMIT board enables long-range communication for remote monitoring applications. The boards provide industry-standard UART and I²C, MODBUS RTU and 4 – 20 ma protocols and offer user-configurable calibration settings and adjustable response factors. Users can map scaled outputs to flexible ppm/current levels depending on the application, while duty cycle control helps extend sensor lifetime. Integrated error diagnostics can be programmed to detect specific fault conditions, and the compact format supports use in small devices, including portable and wearable systems. The boards are also compatible with diffused and pumped sampling systems using a bespoke gas hood for flexible integration.

Together, these innovations provide industrial-grade reliability, reduce integration and development costs, speed up time to market, and improve return on investment for OEMs, integrators, and developers. Applications include indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, lithium battery life cycle, HVAC systems, and laboratory testing.
